Supreme Court Ruling on Abortion/Corte Suprema Decide Sobre el Aborto

Hispanic Women Make up Majority of New Entrepreneurs SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) - The number of Santa Clara County businesses owned by Hispanic woman has increased more than 200% over the last 20 years. KCBS' Mike Colgan reports that's outpacing the national average.

"I started the business about two years ago," one woman described her experience.

The number of Latino-owned businesses in the Silicon Valley has simply skyrocketed.

"Latina women are opening more businesses because of family, it's a big thing, because they want to work around their family's schedules, it's really important to Latinas. And the other reason why is there's so many needs that are not being met in the general market that Hispanics want to do, they're just starting their own businesses," a Latina entrepreneur explained to KCBS.

Colgan reports that many of the businesses feature products that reflect the Latina culture.

"I wanted to do something that really embraced that and brought products and kept alive a lot of the things that are most important to me, which is my family, my culture and my faith, and a lot of things that were able to be all incorporated in this business," she offered.

The local Hispanic Chamber of Commerce says 6-10 new businesses open in the Silicon Valley in any given week.
